Insulation slabs for ceiling or roofing blocks comprise a core of rigid plastic foam enclosed at least on all longitudinal faces by a reinforcing fabric where the fabric structure is fully permeated by and hence integral with the foam material. Used esp. for profiles shaped to rest on the lower flanges of inverted 'T' or 'I' section girders at standard rafter intervals. The fabric reinforcement compensates in strength for use of reduced core foam densities to allow relatively expensive incombustible foam materials to be commercially competitive with combustible materials such as expanded polystyrene. Suitably the core is a phenolic foam and the cover is a layer of polyester fabric; or the foam is of polyurethane and the cover a glass fibre fabric.
