The radiation heater consists of electrical resistance heating wire (5) meandering in one plane inside an evacuated, or gas-filled, cavity (3) behind a glass or similar plate (6) transparent to the wanted heating radiation. The heating wire, which may also be helical wound, loops around posts (4) projecting into the evacuated cavity. Alternatively, the wires may be sandwiched between the inwards angled edges of the front and rear plates of the heater assembly. The inside surface of the rear plate, which is also of glass, may be silvered to form a reflector.
