The flexible seal ring for forming a seal between two surfaces comprises a ring shaped elastomeric member, and a ring shaped insert member embedded in the elastomeric member to provide reinforcement of the elastomeric member against deformation and resistance against abrasion. The ring shaped insert member viewed in cross-section has two integral limbs extending away from a connection between them to respective free ends of it, the free ends having separate free surfaces spaced apart from each other and extending adjacent a common sealing surface of the seal ring. The insert member cross-section is in the sahpe of a T with a stem portion extending from the integral limb connection toward the central portion of the elastomeric member.
