LAYING TOOL FOR LAYING OF SUBMARINE CABLES INTO A SEA-BOTTOM

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURELaying tool for laying of submarine cable in a sea-bottom trench. The tool consisting of a drag unit and a pullingtube joined by means of a cardanic suspension and to be drawnby a vessel may be used for the most variable sea and bottomconditions. The cable is laid out from the vessel through thepulling tube, a channel in the drag unit, and, finally, intoa sea-bottom trench turned up by a ploughing means on thedrag unit. This unit is constructed so that the cable is forceddown onto the bottom of the trench even if the unit is notoperating in a proper position due to a rough sea-bottom.Moreover, the drag unit is constructed so that all material turnedup from the sea-bottom is pushed aside from the trench and theploughing means. The laying tool may also be provided withfloating tanks adjusted so that the drag unit without cable willfloat but with cable it will sink. The tanks may be filledwith both water and air to facilitate submergence and refloatingof the drag unit.
