ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe disclosure relates to a monitoring systemand method for determining the magnitude of the equiva-lent voltage source impedance and the magnitude of theequivalent voltage source voltage on a telephone lineand switching network of a telephone system. Themonitoring system measures the Thevenin source voltageand source impedance to ground on the line by applyingtwo independant voltage conditions to the line and sensesthe resulting steady state voltages thereby produced ina sensing resistor. The magnitudes of the sensed steadystate voltage are thereafter utilized for obtainingthe Thevenin source voltage and source impedance magnitudes.
