Thick seam coal shearer with ranging drums - drums ranged by pivotal subframe under cylinder power off main frame supports

Drums at both ends of the machine are carried on drives rotating round horizontal axes at right angles to the machine, with an interposed and independently powered haulage between the drives. The main machine frame structure has supports either end which enclose the haulage/and ancillaries/and each of which mounts a cylinder powered subframe. These can be swivelled round an axis at right angles to the machine and are each equipped with drive formed from motor and cutter. The shearer drum itself can be ranged on its jib by means of the associated drive so as to engage the coalface at right angles. Preferably an extensible underpinning frame of rectangular section with its wider side parallel to the floor should be pivoted on the main frame so as to hinge onto and support the respective subframe.
