Films and/or thin-walled articles are shredded in a machine with a driven cutter shaft and with several spaced saw blade cutters mounted both on that shaft and also on a parallel shaft which rotates in the opposite direction, the cutters on the two shafts are staggered alternately and the tips extend radially to the gullet of the opposing cutters. An axial air gap remains between the boss of each cutter and that of its counter-cutter, this gap is less than the min. thickness of film, a separator is mounted between each pair of cutters on one shaft and runs close to and tangentially to the circumference of the distance collars between those cutters, the tips of one saw cutter coincide with the gullets of its opposite cutter. Low power consumption and minimal heat generation are achieved.
