A sugar beet harvesting and cleaning machine has a roller with a series of discs mounted along it on a square shaft, arranged like the teeth on a comb. On a parallel shaft is a set of cleaning members which penetrate between the discs, and remove earth, stones, etc. Each cleaning member consists of an arm carrying a scraper blade at its end, the arms being secured by welding or rivets, and the shaft being hexagonal. The blades are interchangeable, and are positioned along the shaft in a staggered manner to form a helix. Their radius of rotation is nearly equal to the radius of the discs, the two circular paths overlapping.
