The topping implement has an automatic thickness device, and a topping blade (12) on a swivelling first arm, while a second such arm carries a sensor. The two arms are mounted on vertically spaced swivel axes. They are connected by a slide guide, spaced from the swivel axes. The bladder and sensors on ends of both swivel arms carry out different height motion during swivel of both arms. On a third support arm (15) is fitted a cleaner (18), rotatable about a vertical axis, with downwards protruding tools (20). The cleaner is motor driven and allocated to the topping blade. ADVANTAGE - There is no collecting of beat tops and leaves at lowest point of topping blade, without change of cutting height.
