The arrangement is intended for a maximum-minimum thermometer containing metallic markers in the capillary U-tube. It comprises a bar magnet capable of holding the markers in one position whilst, after transport of the thermometer, it is shaken to bring the mercury down to a continuous thread. The bar may be recessed to fit and slide up and down over the capillary tubes. The markers may consist of a ferromagnetic material, or such material enclosed in glass. There may be two separate bars, one for each half of the U-tube.
