The washing stage to remove surplus paste dye from pattern printed fabric uses an application of fluid to swell the paste thickener, using a defined fluid volume to achieve the swelling. After a dwell time, the surplus paste dye can be removed from the fabric. The fabric is allowed to dwell in air, hanging in loops without adjacent loops being allowed to touch each other. The dwell phase can be restricted to 20-30 secs., after which the swollen dye is released. This stage can be repeated, if necessary, before being chemically washed by a fluid being passed through the whole material. The process ensures that surplus paste dye is easily removed from the material before it enters the final chemical washing stage.
