An a.c. voltage with constant frequency and amplitude is applied to a potentiometer mechanically rigidly connected through the wiper shaft to the input signal potentiometer. This voltage is, possibly after amplification, applied as an a.m. volume control signal to the magnetic tape and recorded on a volume control track, parallel to the sound track. After passing through a rectifier, it controls the amplifier gain. The first potentiometer can be electronically remote controlled. The second potentiometer can be connected to an a.c. generator, e.g. loudspeaker setting signal generator.
