The valve plate fixing device is particularly for safety valves. The plate has a tubular boss in which the valve spindle fits detachably, to allow a small amount of pivoting in all directions. The boss (13) on the valve plate (5) has a circlip (19) fitting in a groove, while the insertion end (14) of the spindle (12) has at the level of the circlip a recess (20), with which the circlip snaps into engagement. The circlip can be of round section, fitting in a sharp-edged groove of rectangular section in the boss.
