The displacement transducer consists of a vertical lever laser tube whose axis passes through lower and upper reference surfaces. Angular variation in the upper surface is to be measured. Both surfaces are fitted with resonator reflectors. The lower reflector is attached to a universal mounting below which is a quadrant detector adjusted so that the laser beam illuminates all four quadrants equally. Its output signals are converted to proportional X and Y coordinate signals. And displacement in the upper surface being monitored results in a shift of the laser beam spot on the detector.
