Forgery resistant cheque or identity card - has pattern printed in ink only visible in UV light below conventional layer

A cheque card or identity card (1) is made from a piece of rigid PVC which has two zones (2, 3) covered with a layer of material suitable for printing. An elaborate pattern (4) which is difficult to forge, is then printed on the surface using ink which is only visible in ultra-violet light. The pattern is then overprinted in ordinary ink (5). Any attempt to erase the overprinting will remove part of the printed pattern. The official who checks the authenticity of the card will examine it under ultra-violet light so that any forgery will be detected.
