The anti-forgery system for a lottery ticket or a cheque has the important parts of the printed matter printed in relief. This prevents alteration by using a conventional printing system. When the document is a lottery ticket, the number can be printed in relief. Alternatively, a design or decorative portion is printed in relief, and the number is printed in ink on top of that portion. When the document is a cheque, the part printed in relief is the name of the holder of the bank account. For any document, portions printed in relief can carry information printed in ink.
