The drive is for an applicator having a pair of rotating application rollers. The rotary movement is from a drive (12) to the rollers (2, 3) via an adjustable clutch (15). The clutch is charged by pressurised air, the pressure of which may be changed by a control valve. The clutch may be formed as a friction clutch (15) having a number of discs or plates. Alternately, it may be an oil-hydraulic clutch, having a static cylinder/piston unit, with pressurised air actuation. The discs have associated springs, to effect an automatic return, to their original position, when the air fails.
