The printing mechanism has a dot-matrix printing head using electromagnetically-operated printing wires. The printing head carrier has a drive track on its lower side in order to move the head in a transverse direction. The track engages a peg (22) of the drive for reversible movement of the head. A further transmission tang (92) is used to advance the recording paper (P). A feed roller (26) transports the paper in direction at right angles to the transverse motion of the head and corresponding to the movement of the head carrier. A supply roller (24) feeds the paper along a guide path (40, 97) past the feed roller.
