An off-shore platform standing on a base on the sea bed has zones of preferential contact provided under the base. These zones are pref. near the periphery and they have the form of projecting parts in the shape of boxes or sills. Their height is chosen, so that, in the equilibrium position under the load of the platform, the parts of the base directly over the peaks of undulations in the ground are unloaded. Problems associated with abnormal stresses arising from the fact that the sea bed is not flat are avoided, with consequent savings in materials. Once equilibrium has been established, concrete can be run into the free spaces between the surface of the ground and the bottom of the base.
