Alkali metal hypochlorite bleach solns. contg. perfume oil to mask the Cl2 smell and a dispersant for the perfume oil are improved by using =1 quat. NH4 cpds. of formula R1R2R3R4N n+ Xn (I) and/or R1R2R3N-R4-NR5-R6R7 ++ Xn- 2/n (II) as the dispersant. In the formulae, R1 is is not 20C alkyl or aromatic; R2-R7 are is not 14C alkyl or aromatic, 5-18C cycloalkyl, 7-10C alkaryl, pyridyl; X is F-, Cl-, No3-. So4--, MeSO4-, CO3--, ClO4-, OH-, sulphonate; n = 1 or 2. Use of (I) and/or (II) as the disinfectant gives a perfumed bleach compsn. that is stable over prolonged periods of time.
