Pregnancy test kit - with reagents for immunoassay of HCG in urine

Pregnancy test kit for immunochemical determn. of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) in urine comprises (a) a box-type container with holders for =1 dropper and =2 ampoules, a holder for standing an ampoule upright on the bottom of the container, and a mirror located below the upright ampoule to make the results of the test visible from outside the container, and (b) =1 transparent ampoule which contains a solid sample of HCG-sensitised erythrocytes and a solid sample of anti-HCG antiserum, and which has sufficient capacity to receive the urine test sample and the solvent for the erythrocyte and antiserum materials. The improvement is that (1) the transparent ampoule is provided at the bottom with a layer of freeze-dried anti-serum in buffer soln. with a sucrose carrier, and above this, with a layer of freeze-dried HCG-sensitised human erythrocytes supported on sucrose, and (2) the test kit includes =1 ampoule contg. a metered amt. of the solvent needed to reconstitute the freeze-dried materials (esp. 0.4 ml of distilled H2O). Cf. the test kit described in US 3579306, the present kit avoids contact of the reagents with atmospheric moisture and provides a highly specific result (without interference from other urine hormones) in a short time (ca. 1 hr).
