Emergency release for vehicle safety belt - has integral bellows expanded by breakage of gas capsule to release catch after deceleration

The emergency release is fitted to a vehicle safety belt and opens the catch in the event of sudden deceleration. It comprises a body(1) with a lever(3) hinged(4) at one end. This covers a chamber(8) formed in the body, a sealed bellows(10) fitting inside. Within the bellows is a capsule(12) filled with a liquefied gas (16). This has a necked capillary tube(14, 15) attached to one end(11') of the bellows and operates as a cantilever. Shock breaks the necking and releases the gas to expand the bellows and open the catch lever.
