A protective pad for feminine hygiene is absorbent and only of slight thickness. It is roughly oblong and has front and rear parts which are rounded. Close to its longitudinal axis it has a protuberance of absorbent material. This is inserted completely between the outer lips of the vulva without penetrating inside the vagina. In the central zone of this protuberance which contains a small quantity of super-absorbent components, there is a recess for the collection of the debris of the mucous membrane. The pad is moulded from a suspension of fibres in air with a peripheral bead. It presents the form which is best adapted to the feminine anatomy and considerably reduces the possibility of lateral leakage.
