PURPOSE:To eliminate speed change shocks and to reduce power loss by controlling the engagement and disengagement of a high gear clutch through utilization of pressure of hydraulic oil in a hydraulic servo chamber. CONSTITUTION:An automatic speed change gear having a torque converter 1 fitted with a high gear clutch 50 is provided with a transient release valve 320, 1ock-up shift 300, and governor control valve 310. In the valve 320, when an oil chamber 326 or 327 is applied with an oil pressure (line pressure) above a predetermined valve, a spool 321 locates at a high position to connect an oil passage 140 with an oil passage 141. In the valve 300, when an oil chamber 304 is applied with a line pressure, a spool 301 moves upward to connect an oil passage 103 with an oil passage 131, operating the clutch 50. In the valve 300, when the governor pressure prevailing in an oil chamber 313 reaches a predetermined valve, a spool 311 is moved downward to communicate an oil passage 113 with an oil passage 140.
