PURPOSE:To obtain inexpensively (less material and manufacturing costs), quickly and easily an expensive-metal-looking material by providing a non-metallic material, such as plastic and wood, etc., with appearance of metal in such a manner as to process it after precipitation of powder metal on the surface. CONSTITUTION:A printing ink 3 prepared by mixing of powder metal 1 (such as electrolytic copper powder or aluminum powder) and a vehicle 2 having smaller specific gravity than the powder metal is printed on surface of a work (such as name plate or indication panel) 4 of a non-metallic material (such as plastic, wood or porcelain) to form a uniform ink coating layer. By allowing the metal powder 1 to precipitate on the surface of the work 4 for forming a thin metallic layer 1' during drying process and by grinding the surface to remove coating film of the vehicle 2 from a required pattern configuration, a metallic layer 1' is exposed to form a required pattern with metallic appearance.
