PURPOSE:To eliminate the removal step of marking agent and to make direct coating possible by using a specified marking agent in a method of coating a primer- treated steel material with an inorganic zinc-rich paint. CONSTITUTION:A steel material is pre-treated with an inorganic zinc chop primer to improve the adhesion property of the steel material to a paint. The marking on a predetermined position of the steel material is put by using a marking agent comprising, main component, alkyl silicate resin such as ethyl silicate and containing 15 to 60% by weight of zinc dust and an appropriate amount of a pigment. Without removing this marking agent, the coating of an inorganic zinc-rich paint can be carried out directly on the marking agent.
