NEW MATERIAL:The title compound of formula I or II: (R1 and R2 are 1-3C alkyl groups; R3 is H or methyl group; n is 1 or 2). EXAMPLE:3-(1,3-Dimethyl-3-cyclohexenyl)-propionaldehyde dimethyl acetal. USE:Perfumes, medicines, agricultural chemicals, or their intermediates, having a fragrance of Greennote like fresh wood, chemically stable, with low toxicity, and usable for detergents, deodorants, cosmetics, cleaning agents, dentifrice, and food. PROCESS:Novel 3-(1,3-Dimethyl-3-cyclohexenyl)propionaldehyde of formula III is reacted with a monohydric alcohol of formula IV: (R4 is R1 or R2) or an orthoformate of formula V to give the objective compound of formula I. Alternatively, the novel compound of formula III is reacted with an alkylene glycol of formula VI to form the desired compound of formula II.
