The dish-shaped body of a slag laddle has a thickened rim to which a cylindrical mantle carrying the lifting and tilting trunnions is fixed. The dish body has no stiffeners. It is pref. formed from rolled steel, a plate formed into a truncated cone and a pressed bottom being assembled by welding. The ladle does not quickly develop fissures due to lack of uniformity in the distribution of the temp. and loading stresses. The ladle is not cast steel, and the design reduces the cost of repairs whilst prolonging its life. The design permits the replacement of the separate components if necessary.
