Reduced pellet for iron prepn. with a low zinc content is prepd. from blast furnace material and convertor material by (a) adjusting the carbon content of the raw material to 8-15%, opt. by adding powdered C material, (b) mixing with a suitable amt. of a binder, and subjecting the mixt. to moisture control in order to form a crude pellet, (c) preheating the dried crude pellet to 550 degrees C to form a pellet with a high strength, (d) placing the pellet in a rotatable furnace and adding 3 wt % C material, and (e) sintering the pellet by heating so that the temp. of the pellet at the outlet part of the oven is 1100 degrees C. The amt. of combustion air added to the rotatable oven is controlled to give an exhaust gas at the oven end with a CO content of 1%.
