The pressure cell, esp. for aerological radio sounds is designed as an electro-mechanical transducer in a housing sealed against moisture. The barometric cell comprises a spacer ring (1) to which are welded corrugated side plates to form a pressure-tight chamber (2)(3). The chamber can be evacuated via a pump nipple (4). A fixed capacitor plate (6) is insulated to the spacer ring. Moving capacitor plates (7)(7') on each side of the fixed plate, are attached to the side cheeks and in electrical contact with them and with each other. The electrical contact to the centre fixed plate is insulated and brought out through the spacer ring (9) and sealed with a glass weld. The capacitor is connected to an oscillatory circuit. The pressure changes cause relative movement between the capacitor plates. The change in capacitance modifies the characteristic of the circuit.
