Process of coating brickwork, concrete surfaces, wood, plastics, metal or the like comprises applying an adhesive and then particles of compressible material that sinters and/or fuses at up to 200 degrees C.; and finally compacting, sintering or fusing them so as to obtain a smooth coating. The particles are suitably "Styropor" (RTM) particles. Smoothing is effected by "ironing" with a hot plate. The adhesive is an inorganic cpd. based on waterglass. Before application of the particles, the adhesive layer is covered with a knitted fabric.
