The mechanical applicator uses glue, which is supplied in solid form, and melted shortly before application, by heat. The melting process is controlled dependant upon the speed of the workpiece advance. Heat is supplied by heating surfaces, heating wires or microwaves, and glue application is by painting, rolling or spraying. The applicator has a magazine for the solid glue, and a melting station, these being connected by a transverse unit. The melting station is directly connected to an application station. The transfer unit contains a compression unit, with a compression piston, to feed the glue into the melting station.
