For application in atomic, thermal, cosmic and other types of power stations as well as in various types of transport facilities, and proposed for a low temp. or cryogenically cooled electric machine, such as a motor, generator, static converter etc., the unit is designed so that the pressure reduction and temp. fall of the liquid phase of the coolant residing inside the rotor provides a control for the cooling process of the rotor shaft ends. The rotor(3) hollow shaft is designed with an additional channel(16) lying at one end of the hollow shaft and in communication with the rotor(3) cavity. Additional units (21) are provided for pumping the coolant out of the rotor and for joining the additional channel(16) with the corresponding collection chamber(23) for the coolant. The current feed (lead-in)(12) connected to the negative terminal of the current supply unit(15) lies in the additional channel(16), and each current supply unit(13, 15) lies in the corresp. collection chamber(23) for the coolant.
