The overlap and underlap of the coat etc can be fastened by the closure members (1, 2) which are each L-shaped with a longer and shorter arm (3, 4:5, 6) with the longer arms (3, 4) designed to fasten beneath the overlap and underlap. The shorter arms (5, 6) meanwhile are to engage like hooks wherein one arm consists at least partly of a magnetic material whilst the other arm consists at least in part of a magnetisable or magnetic material. The L-shape design ensures a secure hook fastening whilst the frictional forces caused by the mutual magnetic attraction of the shorter arms prevents accidental opening. Authorised opening however, is easy without strain on the surrounding skin since a suitable choice of effective magnetic forces allows the two parts to move apart parallel to the two arms and then separated.
