Energy recovery during glass melting - where waste combustion gas flows through recuperator to heat air used to burn fuel, and then directly preheats pelletised glass batch
The glass is melted via heat obtd. by burning oil, gas or other fuel, with a continuous stream of air for combustion. The waste gases are first used for (I) recuperative heating of the air; and then (II) preheating the glass batch by direct heat exchange. Preheating (II) pref. occurs by feeding the waste gas in counter current to the batch, which has previously been compacted, esp. as briquettes, and falls via gravity towards the melting furnace. The pref. plant consists of a glass melting furnace fitted with a recuperator located directly adjacent to at least one preheater through which the glass batch travels. The preheater consists esp. of a vertical shaft with a bottom inlet for waste gases leaving the recuperator. The waste gas temp. can be lowered to 200-300 degrees C. by the above steps (I, II) so a large amt. of energy is recovered.
