Proof of concept laboratory testing and detailed economic analysis demonstrated the technical and economic feasibility of an Advanced Gas-Fired Glass Melting (AGM) System utilizing state-of-the-art combustion, heat transfer and entrained flow technologies. A fully reacted glass was produced from original glass form materials. A combustor capable of operating at the high solids to gas mass loading required of the AGM concept and an efficient separation system capable of removing the melted batch materials from the combustion gas were developed. The furnace efficiency is impressive and system pollution levels will meet the most stringent proposed levels. Volume II describes the second part of the proof of concept testing in which glass batch materials were used to demonstrate that a fully reacted glass product could be produced.
