The three ball rotating pendulum is connected to torsion wire or tape held in a fitting that contains a spring permitting natural adjustment in the vertical direction. The pendulum is restrained from excess rotation by a projection that can abut a fixed pin. The pendulum has a fixed natural frequency of about eleven seconds but is forced to oscillate with a frequency of ten seconds by means of an intermittent force applied by six spokes of a wheel driven by the second shaft of the clock. This wheel is driven via a spring which ensures smooth application of just sufficient force to turn the pendulum at this frequency.
