The cloche-type horticultural protector has an arcuate framework with two separate plastics sheets covering it. The sheets are fixed at the base of the framework along one edge and have the other ends mounted on rotatable rigid tubes. Each sheet passes over a longitudinal shaft which is connected to a rotating drive shaft via a pulley system. When the shaft is rotated, the rotating rods wind or unwind their respective sheets. Simultaneously the two auxiliary shafts move towards or away from each other along the arcuate framework to change the size of the gap between the two halves of the cover.
