Shaping glassware in a mould - with glass contacting surface made of metal contg. dispersed solid lubricant

Mould is made of a metal matrix contg. 4-14 wt.% uniformly dispersed solid lubricant. Pref. the metal is mainly Fe, Ni or Cu and the lubricant is graphite, BN or MoS2. Pref. compsns. for the mould are (by wt.) (i) 70-80% Fe, 7.5-10.5% Ni, 5-7% Cu, 5-7% BN and 2-4% MoS2, and (ii) 80-90% Fe, 3-4% Cu, 8-10% graphite and 2-3% MoS2. The method is useful for making glass hollow ware, esp. tableware. A long-lasting low friction surface is produced which obviates the need for the usual paste moulds or lubricant linings. The matrix also acts as a good heat sink, increasing productivity.
