The device comprises a flexible container made of plastics or paper. The opening of the bag is contoured to fit over the mouth and nose and has two flaps (8, 9) which are used to hold the bag against the user's face. The user breathes out into the bag and then breathes in and out several times reusing the exhaled air which increases in its concentration, of carbon dioxide. The deprivation of oxygen stops involuntary spasms of the diaphragm. The edges of the bag are welded to ensure that it is airtight.
