The ladder sections (B) have sprung bolts (1, 2) and staple holes (3, 4) for connection one to the other to form extended ladders, 'A' frame step ladders or scaffolding frameworks. It has sections (A, B) of which the overall distance between longerons (6 or 7) permits one section (A) end to fit inside the other (B). The ends of the longerons (6) of the penetrating section (A) have sprung knob actuated bolts (1, 2) which enter staple holes (3, 4) in the counter longerons (7). Lined bores for staple holes and bolt location may be sited adjacent to the first rung and the longeron end, and the bolts may be of a spring piston type with a bayonet fastener maintaining the retracted state. Sockets (5) between rungs may make provision for intermediate non-aligned connections.
