The mechanism is for moving eggs, held in recesses of a tray (9), to a breaking machine. It comprises a conveyor (1) which moves (A) the tray to an intermittently rotating horizontal turntable (B) with openings (11) that come to rest above a tray. A lift unit (18) then raises the tray through a opening (11) where the tray is held by a latch mechanism (16). A vacuum gripper head (41) is provided to transfer the objects from the tray to a conveyor track (49) leading to the treatment station. The turntable rotates further to deposit completely empty trays on a track (55) below it for removal (C) and any partly empty trays in a compartment (at 51) above it.
