The invention concerns a method of sawing timber. Before sawing, the timber is heated through, dielectrically, to a temperature of up to 150 degrees C, preferably to around 100 degrees C, whereby sawing resistance is reduced. During the heating process, the timber comes to offer less sawing resistance and there is a less affect on the sawing unit from the timber and any irregularities in same. This means a more stable sawing cut. A thinner saw implement can be used, leading to increased performance and a reduction in the amount of shavings.
