Polyethylene terephthalate moulding composition having reduced flammability, and the mouldings made therefrom

A polyethylene terephthalate moulding composition having improved flame retardancy comprises both a salt of oxalic acid and polytetrafluoroethylene having a number average molecular weight Mn of more than 10⁵. The oxalic acid salt has the formula K₃[Al(C₂O₄)₃], K₂[Mg(C₂O₄)₂] or Rb₃[Al(C₂O₄)₃]. The composition contains from 5-15% by weight of the oxalic acid salt and 0.1-0.5% by weight of polytetrafluoroethylene. Articles shaped from the moulding composition exhibit excellent flame retardancy and favourable mechanical properties.
