The process is carried out with the aid of a titanium-containing Ziegler-Natta catalyst by carrying out the (co)polymerisation using a catalyst comprising the products of the reaction of mu -oxoalkoxides of the general formula TixO(x+y-1)M(OR1)(2x+1)Z(m-1)y, in which M is a divalent to tetravalent metal from group 2 to 8 or the VO3+ radical, R1 is an alkyl radical having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, Z is a carboxylate radical having 1 to 18 carbon atoms or an alkoxide radical having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, x is an integer or fraction from 1 to 4, y is an integer or fraction from 1 to 2, and m is 2, 3 or 4, with halogen-containing organoaluminium compounds of the general formula RALX3-n, in which R2 is an alkyl radical having 1 to 16 carbon atoms, X is chlorine, bromine or iodine, and n is an integer or fraction from 0.5 to 2.5, and trialkylaluminium compounds having up to 16 carbon atoms in each alkyl radical.
