Three limb core electromagnetic transducer - uses two laminations with one carrying central core and other both outer limbs

The core is typically for electromagnetic transducers, small transformers and chokes. Two lamination shapes (1,2) are used. The jointing regions are at the outer bottom corners of the two windows (3), and near the top of the central limb (5). The joints in the outer limbs are shaped to give an interlocking or locating fit (4). This assists in holding the core assembly together and also gives a positive location to control the dimension of the air gap (10) in the central limb. The plane of the jointing faces is not necessarily perpendicular to the core limb longitudinal axis. The outer limb joints can be angled up or down (7,9). The central limb joint may be oblique or curved (11,12). The length of the T-shaped lamination (2) central limb is typically between 50 and 85 per cent of the total core height (a,6).
