The belt conveyor transports bulk material over great distances and heights. It is of endless type and runs over supporting rollers and incorporates, one or more vertical sections where the conveyed material is held by covering belts. In addition to, or in place of, the vertical sections there are one or more horizontal or sloping curved ones (13). At the curves, the top and bottom runs of the belt, together with the forward and return runs of the covering belt, can be turned by supporting rollers through an increasing amount, after which they travel at a predetermined radius and through a predetermined angle. Finally they run horizontally again at the discharge end.
