The starter has a switching circuit for the stage resistors, with time relays (RE1..RE6) controlling the timing of the latter. Each switched stage has a display lamp (L2..L7) in parallel with the controlled switch (S1..S6), with the timing relay (RE1..RE6) energised upon switching to allow the subsequent stage to be connected to the voltage supply via an auxiliary contact (S1..S6). The last controlled switch (S6) for short-circuiting all the stage resistors (R1..R6) has a self-holding auxiliary contact (S62), which remains closed as long as the motor is connected to the mains supply. The switching device is coupled via further auxiliary contacts in series to an ON-OFF button, these series contacts bridged by a closure contact.
