Porous stable zirconium di:oxide ceramic - contg. added titanium di:oxide to control porosity and pore size distribution

Porous stabilised ZrO2 ceramic also contains 20-60 (25-50) wt.% TiO2. The porous ceramics are used as diffusion-resistant- or protective layers for electrochemical prim. elements, and in the prepn. of ceramic bodies having defined total porosity and pore size distribution. The ceramics have gas permeability 10 power minus 5 to 10 power minus 3 bar ml/sec. sq.cm. after sintering at 1450-1490 deg.C. In given sintering temp. range, gas permeability depends but little on temp. but increases with increasing TiO2 content.
