Decoration of ceramic mouldings such as tiles - where flat spirals of wire are used to transfer glaze films onto mouldings

A flat wire pattern or spiral (15) is lowered into a tank contg. a decoration liq. (2), and is then lifted so a film of liq. (2) remains on the spiral (15). The spiral is next lowered so it touches the surface of a ceramic moulding (5) and is then raised, leaving the film of liq. (2) on moulding (5). Liq. (2) is pref. a pigment soln.; a glaze; or a glue onto which a decorative powder can be sprayed. The pref. plant consists of a carrier (8) which can be driven vertically, and contains several plungers (13), which each carry a spiral (15). After being dipped in liq. (2), the carrier is moved horizontally so the spirals (15) can decorate the moulding. Instead of wire, the spiral may be made of a metallised polymer thread, esp. a nylon thread.
